Impressions on the Palm Pixi

Palm PixiThe Palm Pixi is not as small as I thought it would be, judging from the previous reviews and write up about the device. Still, I am quite taken with the way Palm has decided to make this phone. The choice of combining the touch screen and physical keyboard on the face of the phone must have been an engineering challenge. Still, they managed to pull it off and come out with a great mobile phone. I am really excited to get my hands on the Palm Pixi once and for all to try out how great it really is.

The advantage of being a really small phone is that performance wise, you cannot really expect much from it. But Palm does promise its users with a smooth and seamless browsing experience when using this phone; I seriously believe that switching between using the keyboard and tapping the screen would be hardly a problem for anyone. I have not tried using a capacitive touch screen below the three inch mark, and I think you will be blocking the screen with your finger at certain points. Still, we will have to see how the Pixi manages to work around this. Browsing online would be a little limited as I might expect, but at least the on board browser should at least have sufficient website compatibility features.

The biggest draw of the Pixi is obviously its small size. Despite being a small phone, it manages to pack in a physical keyboard, 8 GB of storage, a 2.63 inch capacitive display, a 2 mega pixel camera and even wireless LAN support. That is quite a lot for such a small phone. I am really surprised that despite its small size, it still uses the Qualcomm MSM 7627 processor. At least we can expect some decent processing speed from this phone.
