Pre-Release Reviewers Give iPad the Thumbs Up
Apple is pretty confident about the Apple iPad. In fact, just a couple of days away from the US launch of the device, eight various reviewers were given sample devices to fiddle around with.
Marketing or not, the Apple touch screen tablet is deserving of the many praises that it has earned. Simply put, the iPad is a new device, it is its’ own technology. While new smart phones have live up to standards and capabilities we have seen in previous handsets, the standalone tablet is a whole new gadget. No one has determined what it really needs and what it does not. David Pogue of NY times has said a very important phrase: the iPad is not a laptop.
Just as Microsoft’s new direction with the Windows Phone 7 mobile platform is redefining the way we will be using mobile phones, the iPad is setting a whole new playing field for itself.
Of course, it still fails to live up to couple of major needs. First, the lack of web support makes it a pretty bad web browsing devices. Most websites use Flash elements, and not matter the argument that Apple has to offer, being unable to access hundreds of impressive websites makes the whole browsing side rather sad and disappointing.
Multitasking is also another issue. While Apple does not intend that the iPad be used for very extensive purposes, it would have been more fun to have iTunes running in the background while browsing.
In any case, reviewers all agree on one thing, the experience of using the iPad is unlike using a smart phone or a net book. This is truly a new device that people should try out at least once before deciding that it is not for them.
