Acer Liquid Metal

Acer has launched a new phone that will redefine the way that you have thought of smart phones. The new Acer Liquid Metal is that phone, and Acer has positioned it strategically with its great price in such a way that it will give heartache for many a person.

The new phone features an enormous 3.8 inch touch screen display that will surely bring out the best from the new Android 2.2 operating system. This is due to the fact that the display has a WVGA resolution and supports 16 million colours. The phone has a 5 megapixel camera that takes pictures in 2592х1944 pixels as it has autofocus and LED flash facilities. The phone also has options like geo-tagging, face and smile detection and image stabilization. This would ensure that you get the best possible pictures.

The phone runs on a Qualcomm MSM 7230 800 MHz processor and this shows off the Android OS v2.2 (Froyo) with its ultimate features like Flash 10.1 and so on. There is a 3.5 mm audio jack and Dolby Mobile sound enhancement for the best possible sound.  The phone measures just 115 x 63 x 13.5 mm in size and hence you easy slip into pockets. Weighing at just 135 grams, it is also quite light too. The phone employs Acer’s renowned User Interface 4.0 Breeze, which makes navigating through the phone’s various applications a breeze. This interface has Facebook and twitter integration as standard. YouTube and Picasa integration are also standard.

Acer has announced that the phone will be made available for the customers in the UK from this month at its launch. The phone will be carrying a price of £300, which makes it one of the most feature rich and inexpensive phones that money can buy in the market today.

Acer Liquid e Powered by Sweets

Acer, Taiwan-based international computer manufacturer, has an ace up its sleeve with the unveiling of the Acer Liquid e. The noteworthy addition to their smart phone line has a number of assets that make it a worthy contender for Android supported mobile phones.

The Power of Liquid e’s Hardware

With a 768 MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and running the updated Android 2.1 operating system, the phone functions run swiftly with almost no hiccups.  There are plenty of similarities between the Liquid e and its senior, last year’s Acer Liquid A1. The Liquid e offers a 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen.  The screen size is a respectable 3.5 inches at an 800 pixel resolution. A 5.0 megapixel camera with Auto Focus is thrown in with the package along with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Liquid e has Wi-Fi capabilities, has Bluetooth, GPRS and supports high speed internet access through a 7.2 Mbps 3G via HSDPA/HSUPA networks.

A Sweeter Éclair this Time Around

With the new smart phone comes the latest version of Google’s Android operating series. Liquid e uses the Google Android 2.1, also known as Éclair, which is a sweeter version of the Android 2.0. Voice control allows users to access the GPS system, send emails and even Tweet on the go. Apps like Google Earth have been improved for the 2.1. Although the Google Earth app looks similar to its iPhone counterpart, 2.1 has a neat feature that gives users the ability to scan maps by simulating flying through the air.

The Éclair is all about connectivity. From pulling contacts directly off your Facebook to displaying feeds from more than one Gmail account, 2.1 just makes keeping in touch so much simpler.

No need to worry about getting drenched during camping trips, 2. 1 delivers dynamic weather updates that are tied up to the GPS system. This allows your mobile phone to deliver minute-by-minute accounts of the weather, humidity and temperature depending on your location.

Home screens are increased to five this time around so you can launch more widgets or apps at the same time. Even if some customized Android OS devices also offered more than the usual three, this is still a noteworthy addition to 2.1 since this feature is now available to vanilla devices and can be used fresh out of the box.

Liquid e Runs as Smoothly as Water

Though the body would give a different impression, the Liquid e actually runs the Android 2.1 OS swiftly once you’re actually using the smart phone. Acer has limited the amount of customizations they added, leaving the OS to run without slowdowns. A media shortcut wheel is added to the far left of the home screen and a wheel for browser favorites was added opposite to it at the far right.

Acer has never really been known for their phones but there is no question that the Acer Liquid e is a step-up from last year’s Liquid A1 and is something to look forward to once it comes out.

Quick Review Acer neoTouch F1

Acer neoTouch F1The Acer neoTouch F1 has a 3.8 inch wide VGA resistive touch screen, possibly the largest resistive touch screen to be used in a mobile phone. The resistive touch screen makes for compatibility with a stylus which is perfect for navigating Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile 6.5, like its predecessors seem to be designed better for the stylus than for finger input. The 5 mega pixel camera takes excellent quality images, and thanks to the LED flash, shooting indoors or in low-light areas is made much easier. The camera can also take VGA videos as well.

Windows Mobile 6.5

The phone supports HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE and wireless land for internet access. Browsing is done through Windows’ Internet Explorer Mobile. Along with the browser, Windows also delivers various features such as Office for Mobile that can create, edit and view Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents easily; though this can be hard to use since the virtual keyboard is not as well designed as those found on other touch screen phones. Windows Mobile 6.5 now supports the Windows Marketplace for purchasing and downloading applications. The Marketplace currently boasts updated anti-piracy features as of its last update.

1 GHz Snapdragon Processor

The biggest feature of the Acer neoTouch is its Snapdragon processor with a speed of 1GHz. While there have been no confirmed extra features that Windows Mobile is capable of achieving on such a fast processor –other than running smoother and faster. This alone is good enough for many people who complain that the Windows Mobile operating system is too clumsy and too slow to respond to fast inputs. There is a possibility that we could expect some proprietary Acer applications that make use of the processing power of the F1.

The Acer neoTouch phone is currently available on both Orange Mobile UK and on O2 and you can get it for free or half price on various plans.

Acer F1, fast and efficient smartphone

acer_f1Excitement’s been building about the Acer F1 since first sightings of the sleek, ultra thin handset at the Mobile World Congress in February. Back then though that’s all there was to see: a dormant shell that, while good to look at, told us nothing about what the phone was capable of. Now Acer’s turned on the juice and has been showing off just what we can expect when the Acer F1 is launched this September. It looks like it’s going to be something special.

It’s a Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon is an energy-efficient 32 bit processor, the main benefit of which is longer battery life. This means that those of you who like to be always-on won’t have to worry about your battery running out every five minutes. So no need to be worried about always having a charger close at hand. Snapdragon also helps video, GPS, 3G, and Bluetooth all run smoother than ever before. Transitions and animations flow beautifully and swapping between applications is seamless – just take a look at the video’s below if you don’t believe us.

Other features of the F1 (only a codename, so keep your eyes peeled for any name-change in the coming weeks) include:

  • A stunning 3.8 inch TFT touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixels
  • HSDPA 7.2Mbps
  • GPS
  • Wi-Fi
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • FM radio
  • 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash

There’s also a more in-depth Acer F1 review here.

Samsung Pixon 12 coming to a network near you

Samsung has announced that they will be releasing an upgraded version of their original Samsung Pixon and they have come up with the original name of the Samsung Pixon 12. So what is different between the original Pixon and the newer Pixon 12? Well, the number of megapixels that you get for your money is an obvious one. It seems that Samsung are going head to head with Sony Ericsson’s newly named Sony Ericsson Satio, originally named the Sony Ericsson Idou, in an attempt to keep pace with market demand. On a personal note I think I preferred the name Idou, but that is another post in itself. If we are to go on looks, for me the Satio wins hands down for me, it is an altogether slicker looking handset, assuming that the pictures we have seen are what the handset will actually look like when it is released later this year. If I am honest I would have thought that Samsung would have upgraded the looks of the Samsung Pixon 12 somewhat, as for me it does look a little outdated, but for those who are going on performance alone, I’m sure it will not disappoint. You can also be pretty sure that the Pixon 12 will be released before the Satio to ensure that all those people desperate for higher pixel levels opt for Samsung over Sony Ericsson. You can also be sure that the other manufacturers will be quick to follow suit with handsets with equal or greater numbers of megapixels for you to choose from. Personally I feel we have reached the peak in the megapixel debate. Other aspects are now far more important for me. I now want WiFi, HSDPA and even streaming TV. The introduction of the iplayer on certain handsets is a great feature to have on your phone in my opinion. So let’s see something more than just megapixels on our handsets…please?

The Acer Tempo F900

The Acer Tempo F900, unveiled during the MWC 2009, has a stark resemblance to the Samsung Omnia with regard to the front part, with a full-and-full touchscreen display and touch sensitive buttons on the bottom of the phone.
The homescreen of the Acer Tempo F900 will be fully based on widgets which will enable using the phone and browsing through it a real piece of cake. The huge display of the Acer Tempo F900 is more than enough for a great surfing experience.
One thing that should be remembered is that all the Acer phones which were announced at the MWC 2009 will be running on the Windows Mobile 6.1 platform, so you can pitch your dreams of experiencing version 6.5 down the drain, unless Acer becomes nice and decides to put up an upgrade for users.
The rest of the specifications sheet includes a 533MHz Samsung mobile process, along with 128MB RAM and 256 MB flash memory. The exact size of the screen is 3.8”, with a resolution of 400×800. A microSD memory card slot is present for extending the capacity of the phone, along with a 3.0 MPIX camera, which also has autofocus.
The phone will be supporting quad-band networks, along with HSDPA surfing. Wi-Fi is also included, as well as Bluetooth 2.0. GPS functionality is also on board, making sure that you won’t be left in the dark wherever you go!
Acer have not released any details regarding at what price the handset will retail and the time period during which it will get released, but Acer must make sure that they get the price right because the market they are entering into is an extremely competitive one.
