Three Reasons Why You Should Get an HTC Desire

The HTC Desire is currently one of the most highly-rated Smartphone in the market. In fact, if you browse through a number of mobile phone reviews about the Desire online, you’re unlikely to find one that has anything bad to say about this wonderful device. Well, if you’re still searching for a negative review then you ought to look elsewhere as this particular article is all about why you should stop scouring the web and head straight for one of the HTC Desire deals, instead.

The Features

To put it simply, the HTC Desire is one of the most impressive Smartphones we’ve seen in a while. It packs in features such as a 5-Megapixel camera, full voice and data connectivity options, and an excellent software + hardware combo. With its 1 GHz monster of a processor, the Desire is also one of the fastest and most responsive Smartphones around.

The Operating System

The HTC Desire has been gifted with Google’s Andoroid operating system. This OS is very impressive and some critics are saying that it has topped the likes of the iPhone’s or the Blackberry’s proprietary operating systems. We can’t disagree. With all that awesome Google apps on board, combined with a very user-friendly and high performance OS, the Android is definitely currently the one to beat.

The Price

Right now, the iPhone 3GS is the most popular Smarpthone in the market (though the newly released iPhone 4 is likely to change that). However, if you’ve been paying attention to what we’ve been saying then you’ve probably realize that the HTC Desire is a much better mobile than the 3GS. Even better is that it’s much cheaper. For only around £400 you can get your hands on your own desire. That’s around £140 cheaper than the famed iPhone 3GS.

Legal Drama: ITC Investigates Apple on HTC Claims

The International Trade Commission has announced that investigations on Apple are currently underway following a recent complaint by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC.

Last May, after signing an agreement with Microsoft regarding the use of MS patents, HTC launched a formal patent infringement lawsuit against Cupertino based Apple regarding patents for 5 various technologies that are being infringed by the makers of the iPhone and the iPad.

The news came as to no surprise as everyone already expected HTC to file a counter lawsuit against Apple. Earlier this year, Apple had filed a lawsuit against HTC regarding 20 software and hardware patents. The lawsuit itself did not make mention of Google or the Android operating system, but it was confirmed that the mobile phones concerned were mostly Android devices (and a couple of WinMo phones as well).

Many saw Apple’s lawsuit as an attack on their rival Google. As many already know, Google and HTC go way back as partners in the development of the Android operating system. By crippling HTC, Apple stood to gain plenty by cutting off one of the largest manufacturers of Google Android handsets.

On the other hand, no one was really surprised by Apple’s hard edged approach when it came to using their legal capabilities. The company has already locked horns last year with Nokia in a lawsuit-counter-lawsuit legal dispute. Also, they used their influence to have the home of tech blogger Jason Chen raided by REACT operatives in the hunt for the prototype iPhone 4 which was left in a bar.

Despite Apple’s reputation as a legal bully, tables have been turned a little this year with most companies now filing cases against Apple. Elan Microelectronics, HTC and Nokia are all confirmed to have filed their own individual patent infringement lawsuits against the Cupertino based electronics manufacturer.

HTC Wildfire Announced

HTC WildfireHTC has today announced a budget version of its hugely successful Desire. It will be called the HTC Wildfire and will offer a lot of the HTC Desire’s functionality but for a lot lower price. It makes sense when you think about it, HTC has already developed a lot of the technology that goes into the wildfire, so why not try to increase market share by offering a lower spec device to increase market penetration. We are seeing the Android platform starting to exert some dominance and we believe that this will be the year for Android. Whereas Apple is a premium brand, with its handsets costing upwards of £400, you can pick up an Android handset from as little as £100. This will ultimately mean a larger marketplace for APP developers and therefore more choice for the consumer. We have been impressed with the improvement of HTC handsets through 2009 and 2010 and we expect big things from the plucky Taiwanese firm over the coming few years. Do you like the look of the HTC Wildfire? Let us know in the comments section.

HTC Takes a Stand Against Apple Lawsuit

The Apple lawsuit against HTC is pretty outstanding, with 20 patent infringement cases covering both hardware and software innovations. Affected devices include almost all HTC Android smart phones and a few Windows Mobile phones.

It does not take much to realize that this lawsuit is more than Apple playing bully with its patents; it is a tactical strike against their competitor Google.

If this was Google that Apple is taking to court, Google would be able to play their game and maybe even match their lawsuit spending budget. HTC however, does not have the same resources. HTC is a Taiwan based company with offices in the United States, and while they are small, they have been in the mobile industry for a very long time.

This is the point that HTC CEO Peter Chou is pressing with his latest statement:

“HTC disagrees with Apple’s actions and will fully defend itself. HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done, but we will continue to embrace competition through our own innovation as a healthy way for consumers to get the best mobile experience possible.”

“From day one, HTC has focused on creating cutting-edge innovations that deliver unique value for people looking for a smartphone. In 1999 we started designing the XDA and T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition, our first touch-screen smartphones, and they both shipped in 2002 with more than 50 additional HTC smartphone models shipping since then.”

Google has also taken a stand against Apple as they have declared their support for HTC. While not statements has been given as to how Google intends to support their partner, as it is also within their interests to help HTC.

Peter Chou: “HTC disagrees with Apple’s actions”

HTC has been around the mobile device industry much longer than Apple. Despite Apple being the larger company, their lawsuit against HTC has not only surprised many, but is described by some as a patent hoarding attack against the Taiwanese based manufacturer in order to affect the production of Android devices.

It has already been established that Apple and Google are the two biggest giants of the industry and that the Google Nexus One was indeed manufactured by HTC (who shares a very long history with both Microsoft and Google). Some are already considering this to be a form of legal bullying with Apple filing the case in the US where a smaller foreign country is at a bigger disadvantage. While Apple is obviously prepared to take the case head on, it has taken a while for HTC to make an official statement.

A couple of weeks back, it was confirmed that HTC would indeed be defending itself by showcasing their own patents. Google has also stated that they stand behind the Android partner regarding this matter. With most of the devices being Android smart phones, many already see the possible motives behind Apple’s lawsuit.

HTC CEO Peter Chou states “HTC disagrees with Apple’s actions and will fully defend itself. HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done, but we will continue to embrace competition through our own innovation as a healthy way for consumers to get the best mobile experience possible. From day one, HTC has focused on creating cutting-edge innovations that deliver unique value for people looking for a smartphone. In 1999 we started designing the XDA and T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition, our first touch-screen smartphones, and they both shipped in 2002 with more than 50 additional HTC smartphone models shipping since then.”

Vodafone’s April Offering Brings HTC Android Fun

Vodafone will be offering both the HTC Desire and the HTC Legend to Android fans when April arrives. The announcement has already been made months ago and with the recently updated pages for the devices on the operator’s website, eager fans can already check out the offered prices of the smart phone and possible tariffs for varying plans.

Of course, it comes as a given that unlimited internet access on 3G is a must have for those considering to get any of the two Android phones. The HTC Legend is currently the big ticket device despite its hardware being less than that of the desire. This mid-range phone is getting plenty of demand for its excellent balance of price and specs. It even comes in with a nicely styled aluminum casing.

The Legend is officially the sequel to the HTC Hero (another successful Android device from the Taiwanese manufacturer); it comes with a 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen, a 5 mega pixel camera and a Qualcomm 600 MHz CPU.

The Desire on the other hand is HTC’s high end Android gadget that is made for gear heads who want their phones to be on top of the scales. It uses a 1GHz Snapdragon processor for high speed loading and running of apps and functions. The 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen delivers both high quality images and accurate touch controls. Lastly, the 5 mega pixel camera not only comes with LED flash and autofocus, but it also allows for 720p video recording.

Vodafone UK is also offering other devices this coming April such as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Android smart phone and the Google Phone Nexus One. Late April will see the operator offering the Apple iPad touch screen tablet on plans and tariff.

HTC’s Phones Coming this April

April will be a pretty busy month for the mobile phone industry as several impressive smart phones will be released. Sony Ericsson already has its SE XPERIA X10 Android smart phone and its Vivaz Symbian HD device lined up for release while Apple has set a late April release date for the 3G and non-3G versions of the new iPad tablet.

Things are also busy at the HTC camp as the Desire and the Legend are both expected to come out by April.

The Taiwanese manufacturer is bringing the sequel to the HTC Hero, the Legend to Vodafone’s store. So far, there is no word yet if the Legend will be offered by other operator. The smart phone comes with an aluminum casing, a 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen, 5 mega pixel camera and a Qualcomm 600 MHz processor.

More widely available will the HTC Desire; this phone, originally called the Bravo will be launching around the same time as the Legend. It has already been confirmed that T-Mobile will be offering plans for the new Snapdragon Android while Orange and Vodafone are reportedly also going to have the device (though price offers from Orange and Vodafone are currently not yet available). Carphone Warehouse has most of the details for the T-Mobile plans.

The Desire comes with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor that will have the device running fast and smooth. It has a big 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen that delivers high quality visuals perfect for viewing the 720p videos you shoot with the phone’s 5 mega pixel snapper. The device is being considered as the perfect alternative to the Nexus One smart phone which can only be brought from Google’s online store.

HTC HD Mini

HTC HD Mini

HTC has recently unveiled its new HTC HD Mini, which is a Sense-based Windows phone that has focussed on the delivery of the very popular HD2 only in the sleeker and more compact design found in many popular minis today. Indeed, Peter Chou, the Chief Executive Officer of the HRC Corporation, stated that the initial demand for the HD2 has exceeded all original expectations and the new HD Mini is aimed at ‘bringing all of the experience and capabilities of the HD2 to customers in a more compact design, thereby fully satisfying customers on all levels of design and function.’ Mr Chou went on to say that the HD Mini’s integration of HTC Sense and Windows Mobile affords customers much more choice ‘for an advanced Windows phone that is well-crafted, sleek and user-friendly.’

The HTC HD Mini is indeed beautifully designed, and is eminently user-friendly right out of the box. Its precision fasteners used to assembled the phone are still visible to users from the outside and, far from detracting from the overall aesthetic, this merely shows the high levels of craftsmanship that have gone into making the phone. This concept of strong and original design is also visible under the battery cover, and is visible in a striking yellow internal structure when you look inside.

    HTC HD Mini

Like all of the new device unveiled by HTC of late the HD Mini smartphone also uses HTC Sense, which HTC have also designed very much with the user in mind and ‘with the aim of putting the user right at the centre of their mobile world and experience.’ Sense is very good to use and incorporates what is called the ‘helicopter view’ known as Leap which allows the user to navigate easily between screens and operate the phone in much the same way as Expose on the Mac.

The handset also continues the concept of putting the user in the centre of the experience with its Outlook integration that provides a single contact view enabling the user to see individual snapshots displaying all conversations with that person, be they text messages, calls, e-mails or just status updates. It also features HTC’s Peep, HTC’s Windows-based Twitter application, which allows users to tweet without any problems and also to follow their online Twitter stream.

The HD Mini further appeals to many people by featuring a capacitive touchscreen which allows websites to be not only viewed but also zoomed in and out of and also re-sized to suit your particular needs. You can also do the same to PDF documents and all Microsoft Office files and pictures with just a pinch of the finger, a great feature of Sense.

Spec wise the HD Mini also comes complete with 3G broadband and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing for seamless wireless connection and date transfer. The user may also choose to download a range of applications from Windows Marketplace for Mobile in order to further customise their mobile experience, though this is of course options.

For power the HD Mini relies upon a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer or lithium-ion battery that allows the user a fully-charged talk time of around 400 minutes. It also packs a decent 5-megapixel integral camera which comes with a range of useful features, including an ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, auto-focus facility and widescreen photo capture. There is also a fully integrated Windows media player that supports the full range of media files for around eight hours of playback as well as video playback formats that can support around 12 hours of video playback. For those needing more space users can also utilise the MicroSD expansion card in the integral slot in order to further enhance the storage memory capacity of the Mini HD. Though no official price and release date information is confirmed as of yet the HD Mini is pencilled for release in the second quarter of 2010.

    HTC HD2 Mini-Review

HTC HD2If you look now, you will find HTC HD2 contracts available on Vodafone UK and on T-Mobile UK at similar (identical?) rates. Unless you dislike having a monthly tariff, this is the best deals for this impressive HTC HD2. The HD2 is the phone of choice for those who appreciate Windows Mobile. If you prefer Android, you might want to wait for the HTC Hero. The HD2 is one of the best Windows Mobile phones thanks to its hardware and the way the HTC sense interface complements Window’s weaknesses in navigation design.

The main feature of this device, is its’ large capacitive touch screen. At 4.3 inches, it is the largest touch screen on this year’s crop of mobile phones (the XPERIA X10 has a 4 inch screen).

    HD2’s Hardware and Features

One common factor found on HTC HD2 reviews is that the HTC Sense truly shines in this device. Navigating the HD2’s features using the touch screen interface is easy thanks to the intuitive design and responsiveness of the Sense and the hardware. All that speed comes from the power of the Snapdragon 1GHz processor.  For features, the HD2 relies mostly on Windows Mobile’s functions such as the Windows Media Player, but in some instances, HTC provides alternatives such as the Opera Mobile browser instead of the less-reliable Internet Explorer mobile.

    Dimensions

The official HD2 press release hails the HD2’s 4.3 inch monster of a screen as the phone’s showcase feature, and it is. It is hard not to notice the huge screen; in a way, it makes the HD2 look like a really small tablet. HTC compensated for the extra width (the HD2 is 4.74 x 2.64 inches) by keeping the HD2 at a slim 0.43 inches. With the battery, the phone only weighs 5.54 ounces.
