Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 revealed

Samsung might be working on bringing slimmer LCD TV’s to the market and working on the manufacturing the next version of the Galaxy S smartphones, but that does not mean the company will stand idly by why Motorola, Apple and LG work on dominating the tablet world.

Samsung said it had moderate sales with the original Galaxy Tab (7-inch) which according to the company sold over 2 million units in the 2010 holiday season. With the launch of Honeycomb, the company brought up the ante on the competition with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 which still has not made it to consumer’s hands. But in light of the iPad 2 the company publically announced it was going back to the drawing board and was even prepared to lose money on the device in order to gain market and mind share.

Well go back to the drawing board they did and boy did they come back with an awesomely looking device. Meet the Galaxy Tab 8.9-inch, Samsung’s second answer to the iPad 2 (their first was the Galaxy Tab 10.1). This device will bring Honeycomb 3.0 to a device that is both slimmer and lighter than the iPad 2. Other than sporting a slim design, the company will be preloading every Galax Tab 8.9-inch with TouchWiz 4.0. Now I know what you’re thinking, please don’t do it Samsung! Fact is, TouchWiz 4.0 over Android is not that bad. In fact the UI tweaks bring a lot of polished elements to the overall unpolished look of some of the applications. One downside is the Tab 8.9-inch will bring a nonstandard charging port to the device. But then again, who said they were not going after Apple?

Anticipating the Second Wave: The Arrival of the Samsung Wave 723

Samsung seems to have found success in their Wave line of devices and one of the more recent additions to the growing family is the Samsung Wave 723. Similar to its predecessors, this device is also a high end Smartphone that delivers a ton of impressive features.

Although it doesn’t possess the highly acclaimed Super AMOLED touch screen display of the Wave S8500, it still has a lot of other things to offer. Here’s a quick review of this Smartphone that hopes to further establish the legacy of the Wave series.

Hardware Specs

The Samsung Wave 723 looks like your typical touch screen device that also features a very sleek design. However, what makes it stand out in terms of its physical characteristics is the leather flap that is attached to the device. It serves as a protective cover for the screen and shows some semblance of Samsung’s previous release, the Samsung Star.
The Wave 723 measures 109.5 x 53.9 x 11.8 mm.

The built-in camera of the Samsung Wave 723 is actually pretty praiseworthy. It has a respectable resolution of 5 Megapixels and comes with an LED flash on board. Some of the features of the snapper include geo-tagging, autofocus, and smile detection.

The Soft Side

The Samsung Wave 723 still features the much talked about Bada operating system. This mobile OS is designed by Samsung and all things considered, it is actually a pretty formidable piece of software.

Running on top of it is another Samsung baby which is the TouchWiz user interface. Version 3.0 is what’s on the Wave 723 and combined with the impressive Bada OS, the two work perfectly together.

The Wave 723 support 3G HSDPA as well as Wi-Fi connectivity which means that you need not worry about staying connected to the internet using this device. It even comes with a boatload of internet applications that aren’t only aesthetically pleasing, but quite functional as well.

Samsung’s Wave and Galaxy On Pre Order: Coming This June

eXpansys is pretty fast when it comes to getting devices announced ahead of time, and while the previous announcement about the Wave and Galaxy S smart phones coming earlier than expected turning out to be wrong, they still managed to be the first to offer the device to customers.

According to the eXpansys website, they are now offering both Samsung smart phones for pre-orders and that the first batch of shipments will be coming in by the first day of June. The announcement is great news to anyone who has been waiting to try out and see what the new super AMOLED touch screen displays are really like.

The new screen technology was first seen during the Mobile World Congress last February when the Samsung Wave phone was first brought out to the public. The smart phone had two main features –the new display screen and the new open source mobile platform by Samsung, Bada. The new OS has gotten plenty of developer support and has a slowly growing app library. According to Samsung, the Bada OS will be used mainly on their mid level range handsets. The company is expected to continue development and support of high end smart phones that use other operating systems.

Speaking of which, the i9000 Galaxy S is an Android smart phone that also comes with the new super AMOLED screen display. The device runs on a 1GHz CPU and has a 5 mega pixel snapper. It is a great device for those who liked the style of the Galaxy handsets (which only recently made it to the UK).

With both phones now available on pre-order, eXpansys is officially the first to offer the new Samsung devices in the UK.

Super AMOLED and DivX on Samsung Smart Phones

This April and May, Samsung is going to take plenty of impressive firsts in the mobile phone industry.

To start off, the super AMOLED screen seems like it has become the new standard for high end Samsung smart phones. First shown at the Mobile World Congress, the Samsung S8500 Wave device was the very first handset to use the technology where it was praised for its very impressive 3.3 inch capacitive touch screen display.

Most of the comments regarding the super AMOLED display described its brightness and clarity as being very exceptional; others remarked that the “blacks” appeared to be real blacks as opposed to being unlit gray pixels.

This new screen technology also appears in the larger 4 inch display of the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S. the Korean manufacturer has not said why the Android smart phone will be getting a larger version of the new display. Other than these two phones, it was also reported that a yet to be identified Samsung WP7 device will have a super AMOLED display as well. This brings the total of devices using the new technology up to three.

Aside from the new screen technology, the Wave and the Galaxy S are also going to be much sought after as they are the first smart phones to have DivX HD video playback capabilities. While this technology may eventually be common among smart phones, it is an impressive feature that is not present in the HTC Desire or the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10.

For those who missed out, the Wave is Samsung’s first Bada smart phone. The new open source mobile platform from Korea has proven to be quite the system when it was shown off last December to many developers.

New Super AMOLED Phone from Samsung Gets DivX

The good news with the new Android smart phone from Samsung keeps on coming with the recent announcement that the Galaxy S will come with support for DivX videos. DivX has been a primary choice for video encoding for many people for its high quality and excellent compression rate. With the Galaxy S able to run at HD resolutions, it will be the first HD capable smart phone to come with DivX support.

While that is certainly great news for media buffs everywhere, the Galaxy S is already a great hit among smart phone fans as it is the first Android phone to be used in the super AMOLED display. The 4 inch capacitive touch screen display is expected to deliver images and videos in crisp stunning quality that other mobile devices cannot match. Aside from the impressive touch screen, it has also been confirmed that the phone will be running a 1GHz CPU and will have a 5 mega pixel camera as well.

On the software side, the device is reported to be using the new Android 2.1 OS and will also have the Samsung TouchWiz user interface. Additional features on the Galaxy S include the new Smart Life (a basic daily task helper) and ThinkFree (a Word document reader and editor) apps as well as the recently released Social Hub networking tool.

The first device to use the screen technology is the Samsung Wave –which is also the first mobile phone to use the Bada operating system. It was showcased at the Mobile World Congress where the open source platform was praised for its impressive app support and the screen technology was highly recognized for delivering superior quality images over standard AMOLED displays.

Samsung Monte S5620 – Sleek Connectivity on the Go

Samsung S5620 Monte (2)The Samsung Monte, also known as the Samsung GT-S5620, is Samsung’s new device and is a 3.5G ultra-connective GPS-enabled touchscreen phone. It is also WiFi enabled and has similar specifications to the B7300, although much to the relief of many mobile phone users out there it is without Windows. It also has similarities to the Blue Earth, although it does not have that device’s standout solar panel. As a result of this tweaking and tinkering the Samsung Monte expertly fills Samsung’s current tiny market niche in their overall product range.

On first impressions the S5620 Monte has a somewhat stylish and intriguing appearance, although quite a few of the device’s features are useful without being particularly outstanding or captivating. The display is a 3-inch 240X400 pixel touchscreen and appears to be a pretty standard TFT display and not especially distinguished from most of the others on the market currently. The rear of the device features a 3.2MP camera which boasts support for geotagging – again, a useful if not remarkable feature.

Samsung S5620 Monte (3)The camera does, however, come with some useful features such as smile shot, face detection and panorama shot. There is also the useful on-finger zoom capability. As a 3.5G device it has decent HSDPA download speeds ranging to 3.6 Mbps on top of it also usefully providing Wi-Fi connectivity for an alternative connection option. The Monte also features integral social networking applications, including various applications common to Facebook and MySpace, and also includes support for both Twitter and Bebo – very much in keeping with the constant pace of change constantly seen in the development of social networking that is attracting many users these days. This makes the device extremely useful for those with contacts over a variety of different platforms.

The Monte makes it possible as well to access user profiles wherever and whenever you choose, making keeping up with your online news easy and seamless. There is also support for advanced Twitter and Bebo widgets in addition to multiple instant messaging capacity which affords the user the ability to chat in real-time through whichever medium they desire. Users can also fully access the internet with browsing capabilities fairly decent and there is also an integral accelerometer sensor which means that the on-screen image will adjust itself immediately as the user rotates the phone.

Many people will also enjoy using the Monte’s TouchWiz 2.0 Plus interface which runs over Samsung’s generic operating system. The Monte also boasts fairly good and functional multimedia support, including a multimedia player capable of supporting and playing AAC, MP3 and WMA audio files as well as a few other formats in addition to the ability to play H.263, H.264 as well as MPEG4 video. At briefings and release specifications Samsung have made no mention of WMV video support so it appears that this is not included in the device. The device also includes a 3.5mm audio jack and stereo Bluetooth is also supported, big pluses for those looking for both wires and wireless headset alternatives.

Samsung MonteUsefully, the Samsung Monte also features integral GPS that touts Google Maps version 3.0 as well as Google Latitude which enables you to know exactly where you are on the Earth at all times and update your friends on your location at any time – perfect for obsessive hiking Twitterers. This, combined with geotagging, enables you to imprint your photographs with geographic tags and allows you an excellent way of sharing your travels online with your friends and family. These specifications are fairly useful without being either groundbreaking or spectacular as they can be found on many other current devices.

The Monte will be available in black/silver or graphite/orange, and has a current probable SIM-free price of around 260 Euros, which would seem to denote the Monte as a mid-range device. It will be released in Spain as the ‘Onix’.

Samsung release their new phone titled the Samsung Blue Earth

Samsung S7550 Blue EarthSamsung have been producing high quality phones for many years. They are careful to create phones that are as least harmful to the environment as possible, and continually improve their factories to make them more Eco Friendly. There is no doubt that the latest phone released from Samsung, titled the Samsung Blue Earth is one of the most Eco friendly phones ever produced.

The back of the phone is a fully functional solar panel. This allows you to charge your phone up with rays of light from the sun. Although it will take longer to charge compared to if you used the mains plugs, it will save you money on your electricity bill and also allow you to never run out of battery whilst on the go again.

The phone is made from a lot of recycled house hold waste, saving the factories from producing harmful chemicals to make new plastic. The phone itself is not half bad either, with a 3.2 megapixel camera built in you will be able to take photos of your favorite locations and moments. Samsung have announced that the phone is going to be released in Sweden later this month, and the phone should follow in the rest of Europe and Asia shortly after, but an exact date has not been given yet. If you want to get your hands on one of these phones, then keep your eyes peeled for details and a release date, and regularly check the Samsung website for more information. No price has been given yet, but there is expected to be some very nicely priced Samsung Blue Earth contracts and pay as you go tariffs.

Recycle Your Water Bottle, Build a Phone

Samsung S7550 Blue EarthThe Samsung Blue Earth would be a good option for individuals want a high performing, eco-friendly phone. Sometimes when people talk about eco-friendly or “green” products, individuals assume that they will be inferior. However, some buy it any way because of its benefits to the environment. That is not the case with this Blue Earth. It really is an excellent phone that only happens to be “green”  and not vice-versa.

The specs on the Samsung Blue Earth are good. It comes with a 3.15 megapixel camera and a video recorder. It has a FM radio and users can message their friends. It is also possible to download games, read and send email. Web browsing is also an option. The phone’s touchscreen is 3 inches and can showcase 256k colors. Individuals can talk without holding the phone with the phone’s Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity and they can download polyphonic and MP3 ringtones.

The Samsung Blue Earth is getting a lot of attention for its “green” elements and that is of course by design. It’s capacitive touchscreen is made from plastic taken from thrown away water bottles and the phone utilizes a solar panel that is able generate enough power that it makes it possible for users to actually make and receive phone calls. As mentioned above, however, the phone is not only useful because of these elements. It is actually a good, basic mobile phone. Its 3.15 megapixel camera and roomy 3.0 inch screen would be great on any phone. It is just a little better on this one because it utilizes recycled materials and energy from the sun which results in less pollutants and waste.

The Blue Earth has been available for same for about 6 months. Those individuals interested in purchasing the phone or learning more about it, will be able to so online.
