The Android Pulse Looks Like a WinMo Phone
Fans of the Google Android may hesitate a little before trying their hands on this new 3G phone, the T-Mobile Pulse. While the Android is usually implemented in high end devices that make full use of the wide range of Android functionality, the Pulse concentrates more on having a low price to attract its buyers.
With competition from other high end Android devices running high at the end of this year, it seems that T-Mobile’s strategy is going to pay off. With many mobile phone users already tired with seeing one Windows Mobile device after another, it is good to know that there is a cheap alternative to experience the Google Android.
Good Price Decisions
The big draw of the Pulse is its low price, it is easily the cheapest Android on the market; mostly, this is due to the manufacturer, Asian electronics manufacturer Huawei is providing the hardware for the pulse. The company has had experience in developing Android smart phones when they showcased their own Android models at the recent Mobile World Congress. T-Mobile is launching the Pulse with pay-as-you-go deals allowing buyers with a good range of options for getting this phone.
Hardware for Android
The Pulse may be using the old Android 1.5 Cupcake, but it still packs some serious capabilities. The phone itself will have quad band network support as well as connectivity options for 3G HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE and wireless LAN. The camera is a whooping 5 mega pixels and can also shoot images. The device itself will display and playback images, videos and music of various file formats. Lastly, it will have A-GPS, Bluetooth and a microUSB slot. All in all, this is great Android smart phone thanks to a great balance of hardware and cheap price. Expect the Pulse to arrive this last quarter of 2009.

Load Up T-Mobile Users, All You Can Surf is Here
Seriously, T-Mobile is offering an all you can surf deal. Provided that the mobile device you are using has a web browser. Load up ten quid and you have got free internet and unlimited texting capabilities for the entire month! The registration for this deal is only up until January of 2010 so I think those of you who have not signed up better get your lazy bums into gear. Well, granted that you will consume that much. I have honestly seen a lot of people who own 3G devices but hardly ever go online or even send messages daily.
Yes, it is true, not everyone sends a hundred SMS messages per day. Not like us at least. As for me, I’m practically using 3G HSDPA every other hour to update my blog, my Facebook status and to check my mail. That’s some heavy internet time. Messages I do not send so much. If this deal was strictly for SMS, I’d pass. But I do know a few hardy folks who can write and send over 10 quid worth of messages in a week. Kids these days are truly on a different culture aren’t they?
Still, the great thing about this deal is, £10 is not that much. For the average person who enjoys mobile connectivity, this is a great deal. For the rest, it is okay to pass it up. Some folks would get pressured trying to ‘make the most’ out of this deal and just end up inconveniencing themselves. It’s a completely different world for people who use these functions and those who do not. A lot of companies would like this for its obvious benefits. For those of you who just got a new Android smart phone, this one is a sweet, sweet deal you should not pass up.

3.5 inch LCD meets Android in the T-Mobile Pulse
Frankly, we found it difficult to understand the hype with regard to this phone. However, when we put it beside an iPhone, we could clearly see what the hype was about. This is the first Android phone to have a regular 3.5 inch screen rather than the narrow 3.2 inch screens that we generally find in HTC’s trio of Android phones. True, it has the same resolution but we found that we had more ‘breathing’ room.
On the whole, what we could see is that the T-Mobile Pulse just didn’t have that oomph factor especially when you look at the top – class hardware of the HTC Hero and the sleek looks of the iPhone 3G, but it sure is alluring, especially when you consider the fact that it will be available on networks as a pay – as – you – go phone. The capacitive screen is really responsive, as is the Android user interface which has been modded to a large extent by T-Mobile to include a brand new home screen which you can move down, up, right and left for a grand total of 9 grids of widgets!
An interesting part about the phone is the fact that the back button has been merged with the home button. This has resulted in the cutting down of the usual madness that we see in Android phone key layouts. On the whole, what we can say is that the Pulse is a great example of what manufacturers other than HTC can do with the Android OS. This phone is a cheap, powerful and sexy phone which runs on a really good OS and has the best ever Gmail app that you will ever find on a phone.

Blackberry Curve 8520. Enter the belly
The Blackberry… you only need to say that word these days and various not very attractive images spring to mind. John Prescott, as the most cringingly obvious example. Peter Mandelson, not very far behind. Close-to-heart-attack bankers and city types on buses, pinging out emails and updating spreadsheets mere minutes after getting out of bed and starting their commute into the belly of the beast.
But things, thanks to the Blackberry 8520, might be about to change. For the better? Well, we won’t go that far. But change is change, and it looks very much like it’s on the way. The main reason being that this is going to be pretty much the first affordable Blackberry ever. We resisted saying cheap there, because this is still a very smart smartphone, so you’re never going to be looking at something that’s going to go straight to the bargain bin, but as these Blackberry curve 8520 deals prove, the Blackberry Curve 8520 is a phone you’re going to be able to pick up at a surprisingly – even excitingly – cheap price.
Yes, there’s no 3G. Yes, the camera’s no winner at 2MP. T-Mobile G2 Touch. Fancy mess
Fancy dress is something we never, ever do. It’s something that you need to put a hell of a lot of effort and most often a fair bit of money into to get any kind of decent results. And they’re two things we don’t like to expend unless we absolutely have to. However, allergic as we are to fancy dress, there’s a form of it that winds us up even more than usual, and that’s when people say ‘come dressed as a friend’ or, even worse, ‘everyone come dressed as the birthday boy/girl!!!’ No, no, no. Terrible idea. It starts all kinds of arguments (what do you mean, I haven’t got a big nose; or, what is that all about, I don’t wear my hair like that), and looks utterly ridiculous.
But sometimes, in a way, the mobile phone world is guilty of this. And that’s exactly what’s happened here with the T-Mobile G2 Touch. because the G2 is simply the HTC Hero. Exactly the same innards, exactly the same shell, just a different colouring, and a few T-Mobile stickers and bits of branding where before there was HTC. And we think: what’s the gosh darned point? Why couldn’t T-Mobile just keep the name the same?
And then we realise that, actually, it doesn’t really matter. That the T-Mobile Touch can call itself whatever it wants, that the network bods can do whatever re-naming ceremonies they desire, as long as they keep on letting us have access to nice phones like this one (and it is rather nice, with all its Google Android-ness, even if it is a bit bulky). T-Mobile myTouch 3G. Ya-boo sucks to the re-branders
You may remember a certain blog writing about a certain HTC Magic only very recently. You will definitely remember the very witty metaphor about boxing used, and how said blog decided that the HTC Magic was not a bad phone, by any stretch of the imagination, but was badly let down by a couple of killer punches.
So, keep all that wonderful past-blogging in mine, close your eyes, remember all the bits where it said “HTC Magic” and replace those with T-Mobile myTouch 3G. Because the My Touch 3G is basically the same phone, just (horribly) re-named for the T-Mobile network. So the T-Mobile myTouch 3G is still the best currently available option for those of you who want Google’s magnificent Android OS and is a very decent phone indeed. With it’s v1.5 of Android, it’s light weight, thin body, GPS, G-sensor and all that jazz, it’s more than decent… but, if you’ll excuse the rehashed metaphor, you need to keep your chin up because first of all there’s no 3.5mm jack socket for your shiny nice headphones(is it really that hard to stick what’s little more than a little hole in phones? Really?). And second fistly: the bantam weight tap on the jaw of the thing only 512MB of internal memory. 512MB! COME ON, HTC… Sorry, COME ON, T-MOBILE, WERE YOU HIGH? The Samsung i7500 (which, fair enough, isn’t out yet) is packing 8GB. And we’re not even going to mention the iPhone….
So there we have. Lots of familiar thoughts and words, whether you’re reading the above, the official site, or even this T-Mobile myTouch 3G review. Don’t blame us, blame the lazy rebranding networks. Ya-boo sucks to the re-branders, we say.

T-Mobile MDA Basic
The T-Mobile MDA Basicis a new phone launched by Windows to compete in the Smartphone market. Scheduled to be released some time early 2009 the MDA Basic is a fairly compact device with a touchscreen. It weighs around 110 grams with the battery. It has a TFT 65K coloured touch screen.The battery of the phone allows about 8 hours talk time.
The touch screen has TouchFLO finger swipe navigation making it easy to use. It also has handwriting recognition.
Memory wise the MDA Basiccomes with a 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM.The phone is powered by a TI OMAP 201 MHz processor. It runs on the Microsoft windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
It has all the connectivity options expected in a Smartphone like class 10 GPRS, class 10 EDGE, Wi-Fi , WAP with WAP 2.0 browser, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and mini USB. These options allow the user to connect to the internet and browse through WebPages. The phone comes preinstalled with pocket office. This allows documents in word, excel, pdf and PowerPoint to be viewed easily.
The phone comes with a fairly basic 2MP camera. Videos can also be recorded.
The phone comes with a music player which supports MP3 and AAC music formats. It can also be used to store and view video and audio albums.
The disadvantage surrounds its touch screen which might seem a bit cramped specially when typing out messages. This Smartphone doesn’t have a GPS receiver making it less appealing to anyone looking for navigation options in a phone. The camera is also pretty basic when compared to even 8MP camera phones n the market today.
Other features include MIDP 2.0 Java, voice memo, and a range of games, clock, alarm, calculator, calendar, to-do list, T9 and many more.
